Shri. Kamal Kishor Kadam

Hon'ble Chancellor, MGM University Secretary, Mahatma Gandhi Mission Trust

My Dear Friends

We are living in a world that is facing revolutionary changes, uncertainty and inevitable interconnectedness, which have also given birth to complex socio-economic problems. In such a time, it is the responsibility of the higher education sector not only to produce knowledge but also provide solutions to persistent and complex socio-economic problems of our times. It is even more important when there is a mismatch between knowledge and action. Therefore, we need higher education institutions and universities that aim to overcome this disconnection and lead the society towards a sustainable future.

On this backdrop, MGM University was established by the Mahatma Gandhi Mission Trust. The aim was to develop generations of youth who will highly competent in their profession and equally strong in their character, stand on the foundation of ethics and values and driven by the passion for perfection in their field. The youth who will not only build a successful career for themselves but also contribute to the nation building. Thus, the establishment of the University in 2019 was to truly mark the celebration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, upon whose values and ideology, the Mahatma Gandhi Mission stands.

While speaking about education, Mahatma Gandhi said, “Education should bring out the best in the pupil.” What he meant to say is that, education should ensure moral, ethical and social development of individuals along with building their professional skills and talents. The world is facing unprecedented challenges today, unfolding of climate emergency in every part of the world, rising threat of war and violence in society, unchecked discriminations based on race, religion, caste, creed, and gender and an increasing inequality in society. The most powerful weapon to tackle these challenges and change the world, as Nelson Mandela said, is education.

We are aware of this great responsibility on our shoulders. We, of course, are committed to ensure that our students develop cutting-edge skills in technology and master the modern sciences. However, at the same time we are also determined to instil in them the sensitivity towards environment and social problems. We strive to employ innovative ways of teaching and learning wherein students are encouraged to use their knowledge and skills to solve the problems of society. We are already implementing this through our project-based, problem-based and research-based teaching-learning methods and I am sure we will be able to contribute more in the near future.

Speaking of the future, we are working towards making MGM University a confluence of various streams of knowledge. A place where the learner sees and understands the world in its entirety. A student of MGM University should be able to soar the sky of the most advanced sciences and technology, decipher the complex socio-economic and ecological problems of the time and also revel into the sublimities of arts and culture in the same campus. That is our dream. This type of education can help create a thorough human being who can lead us towards a sustainable future.

I hope MGM University will be able to help you to realize your dream as well as the dream of your beloved motherland!
